With over 670 km of marked walking and hiking paths, you can walk from the hotel or pick up a trail from the top of a gondola.
The paths are well marked and there are numerous alpine huts serving lunches and refreshments and lifts giving access to additional features such as fauna and flora trails, explanations about the natural features, fitness trails, themed areas and adventure play areas.
Routes throughout the Hohe Salve and Wilder Kaiser mountain ranges vary in difficulty level from easy to challenging, and there are also several nearby lakes to walk around.
We can give experienced advice about walks and hikes suitable for all levels of ability and lend you maps as well as inform you of the more peaceful retreats and less touristy paths off the beaten track.
A few examples of the types of walks in the area include:
Itter Lindweg round route (45 minutes with a slight elevation giving panoramic views over the village)
Itter to Hopfgarten (approx 1 hour each way through the hamlet of Hacka, past fields and woodland)
Itter to Söll (approx 1.25 hours each way flat walk past open farmland and farm houses)
The ridge walks from Going to Itter via Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll, or from Brixen and Hopfgarten to Itter offer spectacular views of the southern Alps. These are full day hikes.
Walks from the mountain peaks to the valleys take about 2 to 3 hours depending on the route.
A network of lifts transport hikers from the base of all nine villages in the SkiWelt area to the summit (all on the same lift pass).
An early morning start to watch the sunrise over the Loferer Steinberg Mountains from the top of the Hohe Salve (1828m) offers an unforgettable experience.
The famous Wilder Kaiser range has a network of hikes some requiring the use of chains and ladders.
The nearby Kelchsau area offers challenging hikes with extensive views over the year-round peaks and glaciers of the Hohe Tauern.
Mountain bikes can be hired in Söll for around 10-15 euros per day. There are 1500km of cycle paths connecting the mountain villages throughout the area.
The lifts will transport bikes to save the strenuous upward journey and from the summit, it’s possible to ride down (eg from the Hartkaiser above Ellmau to Söll) without having to pedal once!
For a gentle flat ride, the cycle path from Wörgl to Kufstein or from Wörgl to Innsbruck along the river Inn is very interesting and beautiful.
